I noticed the Hispanic congregations in the north west part of Los Angeles area had a significant increase during the 90's and early 2000's, but lately they are stagnant, even shrinking in many cases. Young people are no longer attracted to their parents religion, and many are disfellowshipped and never come back. In the congregation that I attended until recently there are 7 or 8 elders, most of them had been raised in the truth or have been JW's for 30 or more years. The trend recently is that there's never enough good prospects for the MS positions because there is not enough converts to fill those positions and the young who have been raised in the "truth" have little interest, or even aversion to the job. I think, based on my observations, the WTS's downward trend among Hispanic JW's living in the U.S. started few years ago.

Jesus gets the "credit" for introducing 'thought crimes' into the lexicon of Xianity, making it clear that simply looking at a woman with lust in one's mind constitutes a sin. Thinking of sinning BECOMES the same as actually sinning.
So let's not white-wash the ultimate source of the JW concept, but give "credit" (or blame) where it's due: the idea of thought crime IS part-and-parcel of Jesus' teachings (unless you choose to ignore passages of Jesus' words, as if the NT is an Ala Carte deal with you free to pick-and-choose the bits you like, ignoring the rest).
Well said King Solomon. The WTS has been extremely creative in interpreting Bible verses to create doctrines and resurrect old prophecies, but there are places in the Bible where the abundant "creativity" of the WTS is not needed to manipulate and control others.

You stole my thunder. The article is a gem that if heeded by JW's would empty the WTS of its members

Is Samuel the same as "Samuel"?
by never a jw inin the nwt 1 of samuel 28:12-20, the proper name samuel appears 5 times enclosed by quotation marks.
i don't think "samuel" (instead of samuel without any quotation marks)appears again in any other part of the new world translation, or anywhere in any other bible.
about 18 years ago i noticed this problem of translation in the nwt, and decided to bring it up to a special study conducted by the visiting circuit overseer with me as the student.

In the NWT 1 of Samuel 28:12-20, the proper name Samuel appears 5 times enclosed by quotation marks. I suggested to him that I doubted that the original languages of the scriptures allowed for that type of use of quotation marks in the translated word, which alter, even reverse the meaning of the word enclosed by the quotation marks. "Samuel", instead of Samuel (no quotation marks) actually indicated that the apparition was not really Samuel. The C.O. was stumped and tried to explain the subtle, but significant mistranslation by saying that "the brothers are trying the best they can to convey God's message".
In bible is valid to add quotation marks to set off exact spoken or written language, but it is dishonest to reverse the original meaning of the author by enclosing a word with quotation marks as the NWT does in 1 Samuel 28:12-20. It seems that the WTS wants to cover its butt regarding the doctrine of The dead ceases to exist, is gone, finito, by corrupting the scripture.
Any comments???

I have an idea what "dubs" mean, but it is not precise. Is it an acronym?
Regarding who should be awaken, the younger the dub the more the responsibillity of us who know the truth to awaken them. My 83 yearl old mother in law who spent her whole life in a 500 inhabitant small town in Mexico and never finished elementary should be left alone. However, regarding my 12 year old son with an IQ of 145 and a heart that you run into once in your lifetime, would be a crime not to wake him up. I will not carry in my conscience the thought that I didn't try everything possible to undo the damage inflicted by a religion that discourages higher education, rejects science and history, controls the minds and lies to 7.5 million honest and innocent people.

Thanks Splash. Good research.
I agree, those books seem old books that can only be good for one reason, to keep as collectible items, not as archaeological reference in 2012.
JW are ludites who call higher education a waste of time, but want the most educated and best trained doctor, using the latest technology when they are hit by a serious disease.

As it is typical in Watchtower articles, I also found a citation from the book The Bible and Archeology with no references whatsoever, no author, no publishing house, no year of publication, nor page number. I have googled the title, but I can't find anything. Was the Watchtower making up a title or giving the wrong name to avoid someone finding more scholastic dishonesty? Can anyone help me with a reference as what book the Watchtower writer is talking about.
I sent an email two weeks ago to one of the elders of the congregation asking for more details about the book, but no reply yet, as expected.

Thank you everyone for your great advice regarding "educating" my children out of the Watchtower grasp . One day I want to take the tough stright shooter approach, the next I want to try the slow and subtle approach to getting them out the WTS indoctrination. I will follow your advice regarding getting the books that some of you mentioned and I will try not to be abrupt in my approach as some of you have suggested.
At this point I may have made the mistake of being too frank with the head honcho of the congregation, an elder that is also the replacement of the Circuit Overseer when he is unable to perform his duties. In e-mail exchanges with him I have brought into question most parts of his special talk "Is it later than you think". His speech was filled with misrepresentations, fallacious data, fabricated graphs, specious argumentation and certainly erroneous conclusions. I also have called shameless the attitude of the Governing Body for continuing to predict that the end is coming soon, very soon, after having failed so many times in the past (1925, 1975, 1914, etc). At this point, despite my attacks, the elder remains surprisingly friendly to me because I believe he wants me to reveal my arsenal so he can counter attack with whatever B.S they use to brainwash young minds.
Thanks again and have a great week. I will continue reading and looking for valuable advice.
